Ok so heres the deal this might be a little TMI for some... I had my period 2 weeks before surgery, and then a couple days before surgery I started spotting and it has continually gotten heavier since surgery. I have never spotted before, and I know I'm not pregnant....so whats going on? I was wondering if because I have lost weight that maybe my hormone level has changed which has caused me to have irregular periods again. I have been on the Nuva ring since I was like 16 or 17 and haven't had any issues now I'm not sure whats going on. any ideas?

My first couple of periods after my surgery were HORRIFIC...
It caused my Iron levels to get waaaaay low and I just generally felt like cramped up ****
I was bleeding HEAVILY (like changing a super absorbancy Tampon every two hours at work) and it would last for just under two weeks...

My surgeon said that hormonal changes could cause this and to just wait it out...ugh

When I finally had my IUD inserted it chilled out and now I don't even get a period anymore...

hopefully it will pass soon

*Hijack* Have you had kids before? I'm getting Mirena, I haven't had any kids and the gyno said it was basically OK but by design Mirena is meant for a larger uterus (after having kids). I'm worried sightly that I might end up having too much pain and have to get it removed so I'm trying to find/ask people's experiences that haven't had a kid before and have gotten it. Thanks :)

nope...no kids
it is uncomfortable going in (for a few seconds) because of that...BUT...the benefit of having practically NO PERIOD makes it totally worth it.
I'm glad I did it and would go through it again in a minute!

So, does the pain go away after a certain period? Like as of right now, you don't feel it do you? Thanks for responding :) hehe

I feel NOTHING at all now...in fact, I check once a month after my period just to make sure I can still feel the string thingies...lol
I'd totally recommend it...

I think you have it right on the button, plus surgery in itself makes your body do crazy things. I've been on Yaz before/during/after surgery and never had a problem with spotting but now I've been all this month. I think the added weight loss gives your body a chance to really react to the medication in the Nuvaring and it's probabl just a side effect now. That's my 2 cents worth, hope it helps!

You just had major surgery, your body is re-booting basically.  Things will get better.  If you're really worried call your doctor :)

...just a side note. I have no info for help on this situation - but just wanted to add - that I seem to be the only male posting so you really seem to have nothing to worry about with the TMI considering I grew up with three older sisters - and also seem to be the only person of the opposite sex to post here...so continue on - pretend this never happened.

Unfortunately, i don't think I'll be much help here, but I'll put in my two cents.

I was diagnosed with PCOS as I was going through all my pre-surgery appointments and so they didn't want to put me on BC before surgery.  I bled so infrequently, like maybe once a year, they wanted to see what would happen afterwards.  After surgery, I started getting my period every month but i never knew when in the month until finally, i had my period for 20 days!!  They said it was all due to my hormone levels changing and immediately put me on the Nuvaring (since I'm lazy) to help "regulate" although i still do having spotting moments.  But all the doctors I spoke with said it was all normal after surgery.

Hope this helps!
